What animals come from eggs for kids to learn from?
From chickens to swans, here are five answers to the question, “What animals come from eggs for kids to learn from?”
- Chickens
- Duckbilled Platypuses
- Turtles
- Alligators
- Swans
Chickens
The most common animal that comes from eggs is a chicken. Chickens lay eggs that hatch after about 21 days, and the baby chick, or “chick,” can live outside of its eggshell shortly afterward. We know this as the miracle of life and is something that kids can learn about and appreciate. Other animals, like fish, amphibians, and reptiles, also come from eggs, but chickens are the most common example. Learning about animals that come from eggs is a great way for kids to explore the wonders of life and science!

Duckbilled Platypuses
When I was a kid, the duck-billed platypus was my favorite creature. It seemed magical because it is a mammal that lays eggs, lives in the water, and is covered in fur. Though they appear to have a duck bill, it is actually a soft nose! But take care with them; the males have venomous spurs in their cute webbed feet!

Turtles
Turtles are an animal that lays eggs and are interesting creatures that children can learn from. Turtles have plenty of unique traits that differ from other animals, especially mammals. The way the eggs are protected and cared for is also different from other animals.

Alligators
Animals serve as a reference point for building great resilience, and an alligator is a good example of an animal that hatches from an egg for kids to learn from. The alligator kids hatch and right away head into their parent’s mouths. They only come out to feed and stay close to their parent whenever they are outside. This shows the kids that following what their parents say leads them to grow up into the best version of themselves and avoid trouble. The alligator eventually grows into a tough animal, compounding the notion that obedience to good counsel builds strength.

Swans
When I think of the Ugly Duckling, I think of a sad and beautiful lesson. When the duckling hatched from its egg, it was hideous and dismissed by its family and peers.
From a young age, this duckling went through life experiencing a brutal world filled with hardship. Then something happened—it grew into a gorgeous swan. This swan was not only glorified for its beauty, but for its kindness as well.
As a child, this lesson taught me that looks are only surface-level and true beauty lies within one’s character.
