Tacky the Penguin Sparks Joyful Imaginations
Tacky the Penguin, by Helen Lester, has been a significant imagination fueler since I started reading it to my students as a young teacher. Young children see the silliness; older children see the lesson about being good friends and upstanders.
Even days and weeks after reading it to my students, I see them giving each other hearty slaps on the back and loud, “What’s happening?” and they will ask, “How did that song go again?” and start to sing it. Some even acted out the full story and asked me to video them. It has been a book that I have read consistently to my students, who have consistently responded to it with joy and imagination.

Time Travel and Heroism in A Wrinkle in Time
A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle is a timeless classic that takes children on an extraordinary journey through space and time. The narrative tells the story of three kids, Meg Murry, her younger brother Charles Wallace, and their friend Calvin O’Keefe, embarking on a dangerous journey to find the siblings’ father.
The plot is precisely one of the first elements stimulating the imagination. The novel introduces readers to the concept of travel through space and time and visiting different worlds. The struggle between good and evil that the main characters have to win also awakens the spark of heroism. The author has also woven another layer for readers to explore – the intersection of science, spirituality, and the unknown.
From my experience, this blend of fantasy, adventure, and thought-provoking themes stimulated my imagination as a kid and encouraged me to envision unlimited possibilities and contemplate abstract concepts.
